It's not suppressing your feelings that heals, but staying with them.
If you're a sensitive person, dealing with emotional intensity can sometimes be daunting. Feeling overwhelmed by what's happening in the world, feeling overloaded or overwhelmed… does that sound familiar?
Suppressing our emotions doesn't make them disappear; it only starts to sabotage us from within. The truth is: when we give our emotions space, they often pass quickly. Unless suppressed, they don't return in our lives as stagnation, anger, anxiety, or sudden outbursts.
When you feel overwhelmed or think you can't cope with the world, stop. Just be present with the feeling you're experiencing, without judgment or analysis.
Even creating just 5–10 minutes of conscious emotional space each day can help you regain your inner balance. This process works differently for everyone. For some, physical activity – walking, dancing, exercising – is an effective way to release energy. For others, simply sitting with music and allowing the emotions to touch you might be more healing.
Emotions often pass as quickly as they come – but only if we give them space. When we constantly expose ourselves to stimuli – social media, work, relationships – we suppress our feelings. However, creating physical or mental space to feel is necessary. These small moments can bring you back to center. Paying attention to your own internal regulation becomes even more important, especially if you are surrounded by people experiencing intense emotions.
For years, I too unconsciously tried to fight or avoid overwhelming emotions. But at some point, I realized: “The only way out is to go through it.” Staying with an emotion means giving it space to pass through you. Grief can walk with you that day. Sadness can accompany you for a few hours. And then, as you allow it, the emotions transform you instead of suffocating you.
Feeling is Courage. Feel everything you need to feel. Don't suppress it, ignore it, or postpone it for others. Because feeling is one of the most powerful ways to be human.
And what the world needs most right now are individuals who allow themselves to feel, who stay centered, and who regulate themselves through feeling. Would you like to be one of these individuals?
